The final concept is further refined against various criteria like the use of material and manufacturing limitations. We selected IDEA 3 as our champion idea and proceeded with choosing the right material which satisfies our checklist.

We can use a polypropylene composite material inspired from its use in a cloth folding board for the basic structure(piece 1) of the product to make it tough, long-lasting, flexible and lightweight. Lightweight Aluminium can be used to make the basic structure of the stand, along with ABS Plastic at hinges for smooth usage. A Teflon coating can be applied to ensure that the outer surface is non-reactive, non-corrosive and waterproof.

We were not able to make the actual prototype for our design owing to the resource constraint due to covid 19. Making the tripod stand was a difficult task however we managed to make a mock-up model for Piece 1 i.e. the top detachable surface to hold the newspaper.

SKETCH OF THE TRIPOD STAND 

This newspaper stand can be used in 2 ways:

1. With tripod stand - when someone is reading while sitting on a chair.

2. Without tripod stand - when someone is reading on the bed, table, travelling.
