Every design project is usually initiated by a need (be it a commercial requirement or a social
necessity) or a problem with the product. This need or problem recognition is a key trigger for the project, and it can be identified either by a product manufacturer/marketer, user, or even a
product designer.
We started to look out for the problems and the needs of the older adults around us as a part of our DE-414 Academic Project. We realised that newspaper reading is a vital part of their routine. It helps them to keep up the pace with the fast-moving world and is a major socializing factor for them. The ‘newspaper-handling’ part is one of an issue, not only for them but also for other age groups.
We decided to work upon it and innovate a Newspaper Reading Stand that is more user-friendly for anyone who uses it and even portable. Older adults like the actual print in newspapers better than the pulsating fonts on a screen. Easier to read, especially if you need to adjust the distance to your failing eyes. We look forward to making this necessity more comfortable for them.
